Kadala curry / chana curry


Kadala curry




Ingredients :-

 •  Kadala (Black channa) - 1 cup

 •  Onion - 1

 •  Garlic pods - 4 nos (chopped)

 •  Red chillies - 6

 •  Coconut (finely sliced into small pieces) - 1/4 cup

 •  Coconut (grated) - 1/4 cup

 •  Coriander seeds - 1 1/2 tsp

 •  Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp

 •  Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp

 •  Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp

 •  Curry leaves - few

 •  Coconut oil - 4 tsp

 •  Water - as reqd

 •  Salt - as reqd

Preparation:

 1.  Soak kadala overnight. After that, cook it with a little salt till they are tender.

 2. Heat a tbsp of oil. Roast Coriander seeds, Cumin seeds, Dry red chilies till they are light brown and then remove from heat.

 3.  Roast grated coconut and coconut cuts separately ,till they are dark brown and then remove from heat.

 4.  Heat a tsp of oil. Add 1/2 of the Onion and garlic pods & fry till they are golden brown and then remove from heat.

 5.  Grind all the roasted ingredients(from step 2,3,4) except coconut cuts ,with a tsp of cooked chickpeas into a fine paste.

6.   Heat oil in a pan & add mustard seeds, once the seeds starts spluttering, add Curry leaves and the remaining Onion and fry till they are golden brown.

7.  Add Turmeric powder, ground masala paste , coconut cuts, curry leaves and 1 or 2 cups of water(water used for cooking Chickpeas). Cook this masala for 5 to 10 minutes.

8.  Then add cooked kadala and salt. Bring this to boil and then reduce the heat. Cook the curry for 7 to 10 minutes in medium heat. Remove from heat and serve with hot

 Here i garnished it with some coriander leaves and green chilli... ;)
